Angélica Serech, Andrea Monedero, Daniela Pinto, Beba Urruela

    13 MAY - 25 JUN, 2023

It is the artist who has the sensitivity to listen to and dialogue with materials; what Miguel Ángel Asturias defined as “the art of deifying things,” that is, the empathic capacity to recognize the sacred life that beats beyond the apparently inanimate surface of objects.

Angélica Serech’s works are the result of a dialogue between artist and threads. Angélica listens to the voices of her threads and attends to their needs; putting her hands at the service of warps and wefts that are interwoven, sometimes harmoniously, and sometimes in irreverent knots that do not want to obey any symmetry.

The most moving thing about this dialogue is the artist’s willingness to share it. Not one to be locked in an ivory tower, guardian of ancestral knowledge and ferociously protective of her talent, Angélica’s is a generous art. Far from being untouchable, her works yearn to be caressed. And so it happens… instinctively we approach them, curious, as if the artist whispered, “come, are you listening too?”

It is precisely the inclusive nature of Angélica’s art that made Espiral textíl possible. Devised and coordinated by Andrea Monedero, design students and friends met at Angélica’s house in Comalapa and, over the course of several days, wove with her, intertwining threads and rediscovering what it means to dialogue living matter.
