Collection from Hugo Quinto, Juan Pablo Lojo

    31 JUL, 2021 - 9 JAN, 2022

The intention of this exhibition was to visually, symbolically, and conceptually explore some of the mechanisms under which the system operates, the problems and situations it generates, and possible ways out of the entanglement in which we, as a society, find ourselves after two centuries of independence.

Within the framework of the bicentennial, this display presents an opportunity to understand and interpret part of Guatemala’s history, thereby commemorating in a critical rather than celebratory manner the state of affairs.

Hugo Quinto, curator of REPÚBLICA, proposes reflecting on the variations and refinements to which we give continuity in a system that excludes a high percentage of the population from its rights for the benefit of a small minority. He considers how this has led us to become an imperfect republic in a permanent crisis, where human and economic development indices satisfy only a few.
