Between Threads and Memory: Backstrap Loom Weaving Workshop
Chok’ojol Juy
Join us to discover the art of backstrap loom weaving with Chok’ojol Juy, a school of master weavers dedicated to preserving and sharing traditional weaving knowledge and techniques.
Through a hands-on demonstration, we will explore the different processes involved in creating a woven textile, from preparation to the development of intricate designs. Participants will have the opportunity to experience this practice firsthand, try weaving on a backstrap loom, and learn about the significance of brocade techniques, whose patterns and meanings vary among Guatemala’s different communities.
More than a demonstration, this gathering offers a space for learning and exchange, inviting us to recognize weaving as an expression of memory and collective knowledge passed down from generation to generation.
No previous experience is necessary. Join us for an afternoon of learning and exploration alongside the master weavers of Chok’ojol Juy.
