La Nueva Fábrica is thrilled to collaborate with OCEAN / UNI, TBA21–Academy’s online learning initiative dedicated to art, activism, and science that invites fluid thinking with the Ocean as a way to move beyond the binaries of land and sea, for its 2024 Fall Semester.

Under the title “bárawa” (meaning “Ocean” in Garifuna language), this semester will focus on the Caribbean, transcending the deterministic perspective imposed on the region since the 15th century, which narrates it as exclusively insular or as divided into three parts: insular, isthmus, and continental; the constant in both narratives: fragmentation.

Through five sessions, taking place between October 9 and November 27, 2024, in dialogue with artists, writers, scientists, activists, and more, the Fall Semester will delve into topics such as the experience of maroonage, tectonic transformations and aesthetic tools and strategies of the region, oceanic subjectivity, and storytelling.

The sessions will take place in English, French, and Spanish, with simultaneous translation into English and Spanish available.
