Visual research in photography and embroidery by Juliana Neri
Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19 from 10 AM to 12 PM
We invite you to take part in this photo-embroidery workshop, a space for experimentation and collective creation where photography and embroidery intertwine to generate new visual readings. Through stitching onto images, participants will explore the relationship between image, memory, and materiality through practice.
“Refração en línea viva” is a research, immersion, and artistic production project that proposes a dialogue between photography and hand embroidery techniques. Through themes such as orality, territory, and memory, the artist develops a series of works that emerge from encounters with embroiderers and their knowledge, exploring the relationship between tradition and innovation.
The project stems from a visual experimentation process that began in 2023, when the artist started embroidering over photographs from her personal archive. From this practice, it expands into a deeper investigation that includes immersion in territories with strong textile traditions, learning local techniques, and creating new works.
Additionally, the process will be accompanied by audiovisual documentation of the experiences and encounters, as well as the creation of an artist book that will bring together images, texts, and graphic explorations as a poetic extension of the research.
