NUESTRA PERMANENCIA (OUR PERMANENCE) is an exhibition that emerges from the everyday insistence of Maya women on not disappearing, neither as individuals nor as a collective. Curated by Ketzali Awalb’iitz Pérez Pérez, the exhibition is conceived as a space for aesthetic, political, and community-based reflection on the place of Maya women in the history and the contemporaneity of art. In contrast to an art history constructed through Eurocentric frameworks, art here is understood as an active verb: a living practice that sustains memory, continuity, and survival.

The exhibition brings together the work of Silvia Etec, Heidy Cabrera, and the Asociación Femenina para el Desarrollo de Sacatepéquez (AFEDES), whose practices enter into dialogue through pottery, sound research, photography, and textile work. Through installations that evoke fire, community, and memory, NUESTRA PERMANENCIA (OUR PERMANENCE) weaves personal, family, and collective histories, affirming artistic creation as an act of safeguarding, transmission, and a shared future.
