    Mi Calle, Nuestra Calle

    30 JUN - 30 JUL, 2022

Resident artists Jesica Bastidas and Sophia Arrazola of Mi Calle, Nuestra Calle collaborated with a group of 65 women inhabitants of Santa Ana and surrounding villages, creating encounters of critical reflection on the situation of gender inequality that women have historically faced. Identifying the roles they still play in their community, recognizing and naming the violence that has curtailed their freedom and mainly motivating an awakening of awareness of human rights for the construction of futures free of all forms of violence.

The artistic process involved: a community outreach phase, citizenship training workshops, embroidery afternoons among women, the co-production of a textile piece with the women of the JD Textile Factory, among other activities.

Their participation culminated with the post-production of this textile piece that represents the dominant vision of women in the past, present and future, interweaving fragments of the women’s life stories and desires; and an interactive mural located on the façade of La Nueva Fábrica, which is proposed as a playful space for horizontal and permanent dialogue with the community.
