This discussion revolves around a series of images that photographer Irene Torrebiarte took of Margarita Azurdia in 1996 during movement sessions and spontaneous dances that the artist performed in an open field and her home studio. With these images, Margarita wished to create a book that ultimately never materialized. That experience is the starting point to reflect on the artist’s contributions to the performance scene in Guatemala, her dissociation from the generation of the late 90’s and the resurgence of interest in her work in light of the recent recognition of her early commitment to ritual and art as a space for healing.
From an extensive group of unpublished images, Torrebiarte made a selection of 6 images that were part of the exhibition Margarita Rita Rica Dinamita, at the Reina Sofía Museum (2022). These are gathered in an exquisite portfolio that will be available to collectors on the day of the event and at the La Nueva Fábrica store.
