Call opens: July 6, 2026
Application deadline: July 30, 2026
Announcement of the selected artist: August 17, 2026
Residency dates: October 19 to December 13, 2026
Artus announces a grant for Peruvian artists to undertake an eight-week artistic residency at La Nueva Fábrica, a nonprofit organization dedicated to contemporary art based in Antigua, Guatemala.
The grant seeks to support the international mobility of Peruvian artists within Latin America, opening a path for research, creation, and exchange between Peru and Central America. This residency offers an experience situated within the region, in dialogue with a territory that is close and, at the same time, less frequently traversed within the usual circuits of Latin American artistic mobility.
La Nueva Fábrica is a nonprofit contemporary art organization based in Antigua, Guatemala. Through exhibitions, residencies, public programs, and educational processes, La Nueva Fábrica creates spaces for critical reflection, cultural exchange, artistic research, and community building. Its Artistic Residency Program, founded in 2013, offers artists time, space, housing, a stipend, curatorial support, research assistance, and opportunities for professional exchange. To date, the program has hosted more than 60 international artists.
The grant will allow one Peruvian artist to participate in La Nueva Fábrica’s Artistic Residency Program for a period of eight weeks between October and December 2026.
About the Residency
The residency offers a space for work and research for artists interested in deepening their practice, developing new questions, and entering into dialogue with the Guatemalan context.
During their stay, the selected artist will receive curatorial support from La Nueva Fábrica, opportunities for exchange with local and international cultural agents, public conversations or presentation formats, and access to professional networks connected to the residency program.
The grant covers:
• Round-trip international airfare Peru–Guatemala–Peru.
• Accommodation at La Nueva Fábrica, Antigua, Guatemala, for the duration of the residency.
• A stipend of USD 2,000 and support for the research process.
• Curatorial support from the La Nueva Fábrica team.
• Research support and institutional coordination.
• Opportunities for professional exchange with local and international cultural agents.
• Participation in a public conversation, studio visit, process presentation, or equivalent activity.
• Photographic documentation and a narrative account of the process.
Eligibility
Visual artists of Peruvian nationality, of legal age, with an active artistic practice and an interest in developing a research process in dialogue with the Guatemalan context are eligible to apply. The open call is oriented toward processes of research, experimentation, exchange, and practice development.
Application
Applications must be submitted through the online form available here.
All materials must be submitted in Spanish.
Selection Process
Applications will be received through the online form. The selection will be carried out by La Nueva Fábrica together with a jury composed of two invited curators: Carolina Castro Jorquera and Giuliana Vidarte Basurco.
The evaluation process will take into account the quality and consistency of the artistic practice; the relevance of the proposed research or lines of interest; the potential for dialogue with the Guatemalan and Central American context; the clarity of the motivation to undertake a residency at La Nueva Fábrica; and the capacity of the residency to contribute to the development of the applicant’s practice.
